Ten years ago, the average efficiency ratio of an air conditioner or heat pump system was 6 to 7 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). So the replacement of your heating and cooling system was very routine and uncomplicated.

Today’s standards have been raised by the EPA to a minimum efficiency level of 13 SEER. Most manufacturers now offer 5 or 6 different models and all claim to be the best. Choosing the right equipment for your home is more difficult than ever.

These documents call for an international phase out on future manufacturing of the refrigerant R-22, which is currently used in most air conditioning and heat pump systems.
