Tips

Air Conditioning and Appliances
Service • Sales • Agreements

1. Air-Conditioning System - You should replace your Air-Conditioning System every 8 to 12 years. Even if your old Air-Conditioning System is working fine, the savings from lower operating cost and the rebates available will more than pay for your new system.

2. Refrigerator - You should replace your Refrigerator every 10 to 12 years. Once again, a new system will save you money (efficiency and energy savings).

3. Range - The new Ranges are efficient, easy to clean, and much nicer looking then the older ones. However, Recommended replacement is every 15 to 20 years.

4. Dishwasher - A mid to top of the line dishwasher would provide cleaner dishes, but could save you hundreds of dollars in possible water damage if replaced before it ever fails. Recommended replacement is every 10 to 12 years.

5. Disposal - A quality Disposal may cost up to $250.00 to $300.00 Plus! However the higher quality Disposals usually has a stainless steel hopper and are better at grinding the waste. Recommended replacement is every 3 to 6 years.

6. Washer - The Washer is the #1 culprit in water damage to the home! Of a number of ways to leak and cause water damage, it is best to replace your Washer every 8 to 12 years to help prevent water damage and to improve the cleaning capabilities of your Washer.

7. Dryer - The Dryer tends to outlast their matching washer. If you maintain the Dryer by keeping the vent screen clean at all times, you can expect about 15 years of life from your Dryer with only minor periodic repairs. Recommended replacement is every 13 to 17 years.

8. Water Heater - Water Heaters are generally inexpensive. In Southwest Florida mineral build-up in water is excessive and coats the bottom heating element causing premature failure. Don't wait till your Water Heater is leaking to replace it, many are stored in the attic! Recommended replacement is every 6 to 8 years.

Replacing your A/C System

If you need a new outdoor unit, but your indoor unit still works, it's actually more cost-effective in the long run to replace the entire system rather than just one part. That's because A/C components are designed to work together as matched systems, so by replacing only one part of the system, you can't ensure that it will work as efficiently as possible.

The advantages of full replacement:

  • Efficiency - works to make the most of your energy dollars.
  • Reliability - less likely to need repair in the near future
  • Comfort - will effectively cool and dehumidify your home.
  • FPL incentives - receive a rebate when you purchase and install a whole new high-efficiency A/C system (both an outdoor and indoor unit)

How An A/C Works

- Indoor unit or "air handler" cools, heats and dehumidifies indoor air.
- Outdoor unit or "condenser" releases heat from the home to the outdoor air.
- Filter cleans dust particles from the outdoor air.
- Fan and duct system circulates conditioned air through the home.
